What are cataracts?
Cataracts occur when the lenses in both eyes become cloudy, reducing the amount of light that reaches the retina and causing blurred or impaired vision.
When cataracts develop during infancy, childhood, or early adulthood, they may be associated with an underlying genetic disorder. In many cases, cataracts are one feature of a broader multisystem condition that may also affect neurological, metabolic, or developmental health.
Because many inherited conditions share overlapping clinical features, comprehensive genomic testing can help identify the underlying genetic cause, support an accurate diagnosis, and inform appropriate clinical management.

Is your patient eligible?
Patients must meet all of the following criteria:
- Patient is between 2 years and 35 years of age
- Patient has a current or previous history of idiopathic cataracts (not known to be caused by infection, trauma, or other non-genetic causes)
- Must reside in the United States
