The Principals

The President and Clinical Director is a Board-Certified Ph.D.-Medical Geneticist, and a Founding Member of the American College of Medical Genetics. She has more than 25 years of experience in clinical, cytogenetic, and molecular genetics research and has authored over 100 papers, book chapters, and books in the field. Sherri started GeneDx after 16 years at the National Institutes of Health, the last nine as head of the Genetic Studies Section in the Laboratory of Skin Biology at the NIAMS. She is known both nationally and internationally for her work in identifying the basis of hereditary diseases, especially those affecting the skin.

John Compton

The CEO and Scientific Director, received his Ph.D. from the University of California, and did his post-doctoral training at the Baylor College of Medicine. He has over 20 years experience in the development and application of molecular biological techniques to answer questions about genetics and epidermal differentiation. Before partnering with Sherri to form GeneDx, John was an investigator at the Jackson Laboratory, and for the last nine years was a senior scientist in the Genetics Studies Section of the NIAMS at the NIH. His work on the molecular genetics of inherited skin disease and expertise in laboratory methodology is known throughout the world.
