Genetic Counselor new               (FULL TIME POSITION)

GeneDx in Gaithersburg, Maryland, is seeking a full-time BE/BC genetic counselor to join our clinical staff. GeneDx specializes in molecular diagnosis in >150 rare hereditary disorders and offers mutation detection, confirmation, carrier testing and prenatal diagnosis. GeneDx is a rapidly growing diagnostic laboratory that currently has about 80 employees, including five genetic counselors, eight BC doctoral level geneticists, and eight Ph.D.’s. The position is available immediately. Initial responsibilities of the Junior Genetic Counselor will include predominantly client service and report writing, but also researching and developing of educational materials and general support of new test development. This position does not include direct patient contact. Interested candidates should be hard-working, attentive to detail and able to multi-task. Position Description
BioReference Laboratories currently has an opening for a product manager in our marketing group to help manage the GeneDx business. We are looking for a smart, hard working and creative genetics professional that can help us redefine the genetic testing market. This person will be fully responsible for all marketing aspects of GeneDx including gene sequencing for rare disorders, deletion/duplication detection, microarray analysis and new technologies in development. This person will use their knowledge of the needs of patients, physician, and institutions to market current and new products. Candidates without prior business experience will be trained in all relevant topics.

This person will work out of our corporate headquarters at Elmwood Park, New Jersey and have full access to all of Bioreference resources in addition to GeneDx. Technologist I, DNA Diagnostics Lab new (FULL TIME POSITION)

This individual will work as part of a team in our CLIA-certified diagnostics laboratory providing molecular diagnosis for rare genetic disease for the purpose of confirmation of diagnosis, genetic counseling, and prenatal testing. Responsibilities will include preparing DNA from submitted samples, PCR amplification and sequencing of more that 130 different genes involved in hereditary diseases, and general maintenance of the laboratory. The position requires the knowledge and skills normally acquired through completion of a Bachelor of Science degree in Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, Genetics, or related field with up to one year of relevant experience.

Experience with some or all of the following is desirable: genomic DNA extraction, PCR amplification, sequencing, preparation and running of sequencing, agarose, and polyacrylamide gels, restriction digest analysis, and other routine laboratory techniques. Attention to detail and accuracy is critical, as is the ability to work in a team environment.

Job benefits include a great working environment, 17 days paid leave per year (vacation + sick + 2 personal days), participation in the company’s group health insurance, life, disability, and 401-K retirement plans. Starting salary is $32,000. We are looking for at least one person to work second shift, although there will be several months of training during first shift prior to starting second shift work. Alternative day schedules are also available (Sunday to Thursday or Tuesday to Saturday).
