Nizar Smaoui, M.D, FACMG, Associate Medical Director, Director–Division Inherited Eye Disease

is a board certified clinical and molecular geneticist, who joined GeneDx in 2007. He received his medical degree in Tunisia, obtained his Master Diploma in Human Genetics from University Pierre et Marie Curie, Paris VI, France, and worked as postdoctoral fellow at Genethon, Evry, France and at the National Eye Institute/National Institutes of Health, Bethesda, Maryland. His main research interest was the identification of genes involved in inherited eye disorders, especially those of the lens and retina. Most recently, he was the Director of the DNA Diagnostic Laboratory at the National Eye Institute.
