Amniotic Fluid and CVS Collection and Shipping Instructions

Specimen requirements for prenatal diagnosis and maternal cell contamination testing:

amniotic fluid, 10 mL sterile
   PLEASE NOTE: amniotic fluid is NOT accepted for prenatal testing
   for Noonan Syndrome or campomelic dysplasia (SOX9 gene) in fetuses
   with abnormal ultrasound findings.

amniocyte cultures, 2 T25 flasks near confluence, sterile

cleaned CVS tissue, 10 mg in sterile medium

CVS cultures are discouraged due to the tendency to contain maternal cell contamination. If necessary send 2 T25 flasks, near confluence, under advisement.

Cultures must be topped off with sterile medium immediately before shipping. Always establish and keep backup cultures but do not send them unless requested to do so by GeneDx.

All specimens will be tested for Maternal Cell Contamination. Send a maternal blood or buccal sample for comparison. Other relatives' specimens may be required.

Ship overnight at ambient temperature, to arrive Tuesday-Friday. In hot weather a cool pack can be enclosed. Shipping costs are generally the responsibility of the sender.
