A. Craig Chinault, Ph.D.

Director, Research and Development

Craig received his Ph.D. in chemistry from MIT and conducted postdoctoral research in molecular biology at the University of California, Santa Barbara. He then became a faculty member at Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, TX, where over the next 30 years he directed a research laboratory focused on molecular cloning, DNA replication and chromosome structure, with support from the Howard Hughes Medical Institute, the National Institutes of Health and the American Cancer Society. Craig was also the Director of the PhD program in the Department of Molecular & Human Genetics for 14 years, directed a core laboratory for the BCM Genome Center and was one of the primary investigators for the development of array CGH for clinical diagnostics in the Medical Genetics Laboratories at BCM. He has co-authored >130 publications. Craig joined GeneDx in November 2009 and now directs the R&D team in the development of new clinical tests, primarily using PCR and NextGen sequencing technologies.
